Filipino's Vegetable Dish "Pinakbet"





"Pinakbet" is a dish that is well known to the community of Filipino citizens. It was derived from an Ilocano word "Pinakebbet" which means to shrivel or dry up. It is mainly made from different types of vegetables, meat, shrimps and a famous dish from the Filipinos, the "Bagoong". 


INGREDIENTS TO MAKE PINAKBET:

1 cup fatty pork, cubed

3 tablespoons oil

1 medium-sized ampalaya

3 small eggplants

5 pieces okra

4 pierces tomato, sliced

1 small onion, sliced

2-3 tablespoons bagoong isda

1 cup water


PROCEDURES:

Brown the pork cubes in a little oil. Set aside.

Cut the vegetables into 2" lengths. Wash and drain.

Arrange vegetables in a deep "palayok" or saucepan. 

Top with tomato and onion slices and the pork pieces.

Season with bagoong and add water.

Simmer until vegetables are cooked.
